The CITRIS INSPIRE Summer STEM Camp Empowers Future Innovators to Take on Global Challenges

18 July, 2023

With immense joy, we announce the remarkable success of the CITRIS INSPIRE Summer STEM Camp, a transformative event held on July 18th, 2023. Co-organized by CITRIS and the Banao Institute’s INSPIRE program and the International Erguvan Art & Academy at the University of California, Davis, this inspiring camp brought together 20 bright high school students from various states, including California, New York, Texas, Connecticut, and New Jersey to explore the fascinating world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

From its inception, the CITRIS INSPIRE Summer STEM Camp aimed to ignite curiosity and passion among young minds, fostering a deep understanding of global challenges and empowering students to embrace their roles as responsible technological innovators. The event was meticulously curated to provide an immersive experience that combined cutting-edge academic insights, hands-on activities, and artistic expression.

Agenda of the day

The camp began with a warm welcome from Dr. Ali Karatay, a Professor of Art and Design, setting the tone for an exciting day ahead. Students were divided into teams led by accomplished Erguvan mentors, including Farhad Wasi, Alperen Ermis, Leyla Akgedik, Husna Aykac, and Zeynep Ozcelik, who guided them through a stimulating problem-solving exercise. These young participants eagerly collaborated, capturing their innovative solutions in video clips, which would later be presented to the entire group.

Art and Technology took center stage in the following sessions, where students discovered the powerful connection between creativity and scientific exploration. Dr. Ali Karatay and his team led captivating activities, encouraging both individual and team participation.
